Deeper through Discipleship

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

Discipleship is a journey.  In the “rabbinic” tradition or the tradition in which Jesus grew up; a person found a teacher or “rabbi” and followed them until they learned all that “rabbi” had to share.

In the Christian Church our teacher is Jesus, through his Word – the Bible.  We practice discipleship by studying Jesus’ “Way” together in many different settings.

            First we attend worship on a weekly basis and hear God’s Word spoken.
            Then we attend study groups either on Sunday or during the week.
            Then we study God’s Word daily on our own or with a friend.

The point is that through this study and interaction we continue to follow Jesus our teacher just as his “Disciples” did 2000 years ago.

At First Presbyterian Church of Thibodaux we offer the following opportunities for discipleship: Sundays at 9:30 a.m. we join together to worship God and hear His Word

Sundays at 10:45 a.m. we have adult and Children’s bible studies at the Church Building

Tuesdays at 6:00 a.m. a group of men meet to study God’s word and share their lives.

Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. a group of women do the same

Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. another group of women from many congregations meets.

Thursdays at 6:30 pm a group meets at a local home for study and fellowship
